How to Change Nameservers on Exabytes

What is a nameserver?

Name server or Domain Name System is the system that is used to translate human-memorable domain names like blogger.com and hostnames like belajarbloggingdengan.blogspot.com into corresponding numeric Internet Protocol or IP addresses as well as to identify and locate computer systems and resources on the internet.

Domain name servers are a fundamental part of Domain Name System. Nameserver is a server on the internet specialized in handling queries regarding the location of the domain name's various services. In short, name servers define your domain's current DNS provider.

Usually all domains have at least two DNS servers. All domain registered with Exabytes Network Indonesia and their values are: ns1.idcloudhosting.com ns2.idcloudhosting.com. On several occation these addresses can also be used as exabytes hosting nameservers.

When you make a request for anything to the domain name, it gets sent to one of the nameservers. In response, the DNS server sends back the IP address. The DNS then responded back with appropriate IP addresses. This works for website, mail servers and anything else based on the domain name.

How do you change exabytes nameserver?

1. You must login to exabytes client area.
2. Find Domain menu on the top navigation, hover or click it and you will see My Domains sub-menu
3. You will directed to Exabytes DNS Manager page.
4. In DNS Manager page you will find your domain registered with Exabytes.
5. Click Manage in the Dashboard, it will expand other sub-menu and Click the Nameservers sub-menu.
6. To change exabytes nameserver tick option Use custom nameservers (enter below) and enter your new nameservers.

After you enter the new nameservers you must save the changes.

Now you have to wait for DNS Propagation or the process of DNS changes to be updated accross internet. This process can be monitored with www.whatsmydns.net.

Does changing nameservers change mx records?

Yes. If you point your domain at exabytes to a new host by changing the nameservers, you will need to make sure the correct MX Records for your email service are stored in the zone file with the new host. However if you keep the domain pointed at GoDaddy nameservers, your zone file records should stay the same.
